Nunzio Vecchio , came out to Australia on a ship to Freemantle with his brothers in 1932, part of the wave of immigration.
He traveled across Australia to far North Queensland to cut cane and earn some income to go back to Sicily to get his bride to be Sara.
Some of the story is a bit sketchy as ( Nonno Nunzio my Grandfather, (Darrel’s) , never really talked about his past, My father (Tony) often said, Nonno Nunzio was very upset with his family when he returned to get Nonna Sara, in fact so upset, that he and Sara, never returned.
