Darrel Is proud to be a tradesman- Influenced by the support of my parents , in particular my father who supported me to be anything I wanted to be.
The second influence in my life was, my best friend Philip Ingeneri , who was an electronics technician ( I wanted to be an electronics technician, I just did not have the maths !!) and I wanted to be a radio announcer, so when were kids in Ingham NQ, Philip would set up a transmitter and we would transmit our radio station 4-Triple X , and I was radio name Dazza Mackenzie , It was easier to do a deep voice when saying Dazza Mackenzie, and secretly , I believe I might be a Mac Vecchio ( Scottish roots)
The second influence was my two years at Wavell Heights High School in 1977- 1978 , in particular the teachers and class of 77-78 , We were the first students to attend the new course called Multi Strand Science, with Mr Sid Tanner as our teacher, – Sid was responsible for a strong mentoring of all his students – He looked like a where wolf crossed with the little Tassie Devil- drove a VW combi , and gave us many opportunities to thrive, It was the only subject where almost all the students received a seven (7) , in those days there was the radford scheme of results and only 5% of the class is allowed to get a seven (7) , in Sids classes , over 80 % recived 6, or 7 and the balance a 5 .
More on the Sid story later
Darrel Vecchio was one of the founders of and Managing Director of Jondal Industries Pty Ltd , which was a specialist Service company . Jondal grew to three branches in Sydney , Melbourne and head office was in Brisbane .
The business specialised in the service of commercial catering equipment in particular pizza ovens, starting the business with a capital of just $14.00 to open up a bank account with the Commonwealth Bank, and we started with job number 1 . As we were both licenced electricians and my background was with Industrial electrical, it was an easy journey providing professional 24/7 breakdown service to the fast food industry.
It was important to have a professional image, with a logo, uniform with the logos on the shirts and all our vehicles were branded with our colours and a distinctive red stripe around the vehicles.
We started with many small owners, with regular work from McDonalds, Hungry Jacks where we were the local service agents for much of equipment that was being installed into the grow fast food industry.
Our biggest help , was the Pizza Hut account, overnight we picked up 26 stores to supply the breakdown service /support for their pizza ovens- With basically only a team of three ! The big test was the first Friday night , when at around 5.30-6.30 pm , they received 12 call outs , and all were urgent.
So , they knew they would not keep the account, the solution was programmed maintenance , and training the operators to recognise any issues before the peak times, so Jondal could handle the call outs.
In around 1987 we went from 26 stores , to every store in Queensland and then Australia – the rest is history, Jondal Industries secret was , being a multitrade duel licenced , service focused company .
The motto was ” Not just good service but great service !” , completing over 120,000 service , installation , maintain and repair jobs from 1985- 2005 , with around 30 staff , technicians and administration then rebranded to DALVEC -, Pizzamac before merging with Spyral Pty Ltd in 2006.
Darrel sold the business- DALVE/ SPYRAL in June 2007
In July 2007 , Darrel Vecchio created Bizmatrix Pty Ltd , and entered the World of consultancy specializing in the commercial food equipment industry then became a Registered Training Organisation in 2010 specializing in Gas/ Electrical trade licence training – With courses for Gas fitters, Gas service Licences for Type A gas fitters, Type B gas licences- Industrial gas appliances, Restricted electrical licence training for plumbers, gasfitters, mechanical fitters., refrigeration and many other trades. bizmatrix.com.au
